From Smyrna to the Gulf
Built on service. Proven in business.
I was raised in Smyrna, Georgia, the son of a small-town undertaker. Observing my father attend to grieving families, I learned early that integrity and dignity are not ideals one professes; they are the manner in which one treats people when it matters most. He remains the most profound influence on my life. Today my brother and I own both of the Georgia funeral homes he founded, and carrying his legacy forward is a responsibility I hold close.
On my birthday in 2001, I founded a public safety vehicle technology company and built it into an operation servicing more than 1,000 vehicles annually. The mobile technology we installed accompanied first responders into the field, where anything short of flawless performance was unacceptable. In 2008, I also served as a founding member and secretary of the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation.
Panama City Beach first captivated me on vacations with friends. I purchased my first investment condominium here in 2007 and purchased again in April 2024. That June, Angie and I relocated to Panama City Beach and made it our home.
On September 1, 2026, my 50th birthday and exactly twenty-five years after founding my first company, I launched SaltLight. It unites the experience I have earned, the community I call home and the standards that have guided me from the outset.
The name
The faith behind the name.
My Christian faith is the bedrock of my life. I credit God with every opportunity I have been afforded and the fortitude to make the most of it, and SaltLight grows from that same conviction.
The name took shape at my oldest nephew’s high school graduation in Smyrna, when the commencement speaker charged the graduates to live out Christ’s words from the Sermon on the Mount:
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”
Seated in that crowd, it crystallized: SaltLight.
Salt preserves and fortifies; light illuminates the way. That is precisely what I intend this company to be for every home, property and community it serves.
How Harbor started
A busy day at the back gate.
I serve on the board of The Summit, a 449-unit Gulf-front condominium in Panama City Beach. One particularly busy day, with security short-handed, I stepped in to cover the back gate myself.
Guest after guest attempted entry without a wristband. Verifying each one meant radioing an already overextended front desk, then waiting while someone combed through paper registration records spanning as many as 449 units. A routine check was costing guests their time and staff their patience. I knew there was a better way, so I built it. That is Harbor.
Serving on the board these past two years has been a privilege. I am humbled that my fellow owners have placed their trust and faith in me, and I honor it by representing their interests, advocating on their behalf and exercising sound judgment with their money and their property. When Harbor comes before the board, I recuse myself from the vote.
What I stand for
Four principles. No exceptions.
Honesty
Candid answers and clear expectations. What I commit to, I stand behind.
Fairness
Equitable terms and considered decisions for everyone at the table, from the homeowner to the front desk.
Respect
Your time, your property and your trust, handled with care and complete accountability.
Kindness
Courtesy, patience and dignity in every interaction, most of all when the work grows difficult.
Outside of work
Family, the yard, and a mind that never stops building.
Angie and I are the proud parents of our son, J3. On an unhurried Saturday, you will most often find me in the yard planting flowers, tending something on the smoker, or unwinding beside our pool. That backyard is also where a good many of SaltLight’s products, ideas and features were first tested and refined.
I am perpetually on the lookout for things that could work better. When our cat wants to come inside, my instinct is not simply to open the door; it is to design a sensor the cat can brush against at the back door to announce itself over the whole-house audio. The current project is our side-yard gate: an AI camera keeps constant watch, recognizes family and our next-door neighbor as they approach, unlocks the gate on sight, and greets each of them by first name as it swings open. That reflex lies at the very heart of SaltLight.
At 6′6″, I tend to cut an imposing figure in any room. Spend five minutes in my company, though, and you will find I am about as approachable as they come.
My mission
To live as a happy man, to earn the respect of those around me, and to be known for genuine kindness.
My commitment
Do work I am proud to put my name to. Honor every commitment. Treat people well.
That is the standard I bring to SaltLight, and we are only beginning. For your home, your outdoor space or your community, let us begin with what you wish to accomplish.
